Drag Strip News 11/7/09
Sunday!...Sunday!...Sunday!... at Onondaga Dragway ! Mid-Michigan's favorite dragstrip, Onondaga Dragway, is coming back to life after serving as a farm for over 30 years. Instead of helping to launch sticky race cars, the starting line was reduced to hosting a huge pile of manure. The popular track opened in 1961, it hosted all the big names, and many more local racers. Sadly, it closed in 1978, leaving Mid-Michigan residents with no place to race. A big push to reopen the track in 1985 failed, narrow-minded neighbors and township officials saw to that. So, it was left to rot for three decades. Fortunately, the track surface remained all those years, and is decent shape today. A private group, now known as the Onondaga Drag Club, leased the dormant race track in 2008 for 1/8 mile test and tune sessions. This limited use of the track has become increasingly popular. Now the club is looking to expand it's base and actually rebuild the historic dragstrip, not as a commercial venture, but as a private club facility. The club hosted it's first Onondaga Dragway Car Show on Sunday, September 27th, 2009. Proceeds from that event will go to help rehab the track. Some old race cars, and racers, that once haunted Onondaga's quarter mile were there, making it a reunion of sorts. More info on the track and the show can be found at
Dragaction.com and Waterwinterwonderland.com. The track is located on Bellevue Rd, 3 miles west of US-127. Onondaga Dragway is now featured on the Lost Dragstrips Page.

Ford Racing News 8/30/09
Ford Motor Company has been absent from NHRA Pro Stock racing a long time, thanks to an ugly "divorce." Since they left, the class once dominated by former Ford superstar Bob Glidden and his big bad Boss 429's has been largely ignored by Ford fans, yours truly included. Thankfully, that's about to change. A variety of reasons have brought the Blue Oval back to Pro Stock. Time has apparently healed some wounds, GM and Mopar's bankruptcies have caused them to pull back much of their support, and Ford Racing has a new boss who loves drag racing. The 2010 NHRA Pro Stock season looks to have as many as half a dozen Ford teams. Jim Cunningham & Erica Enders, Robert Patrick and Larry Morgan are all on board, with more to come. The engine is a new design, details can be found at Darinmorgan.com. Check out under construction images of Erica Enders 2010 Mustang Pro Stocker at Competitionplus.com and Larry Morgan's at Dragracingonline.com. Ford has also signed on to become the official vehicle for the NHRA, which includes the Safety Safari trucks used at the tracks.
