2010 ECNSS "Mr. Super Stock Eliminator" George Gudat

Rolling into Atco Raceway on November 7, 2010 for the Fall Finale third place in series points, George Gudat of Toms River, NJ faced long odds of repeating his 2008 championship. But George and the Big Red 1963 1/2 406 were up to the task as they downed all comers for the event win and the coveted title Mr.Super Stock Eliminator in the East Coast Super Stock series.

George showed his abilities on the starting line and Big Red ran flawlessly and consistently all day for the win. Elapsed times of 11.17-11.20 against a brisk head wind showed that the 406 enjoyed gulping the cold air and between round maintenance consist of nothing more but cooling the engine and topping off the fuel.

In the final runoff George faced his friend and tough competitor Steve Consentino in the Yankee Clipper 1962 Dodge station wagon. With both cars dialed in at 11.20 they would leave side by side just like it was done in the early days when Fords and Mopars faced each other on this very track and others like it across the land. Reaction times of .013 for George and .016 for Steve turned this into one of the most exciting pairings of the day if not the season as the cars were side by side the entire way. Tapping the brakes ever so slightly, George recorded a stellar 11.21 on his 11.20 dial while Steve ran out at 11.18, giving the victory and a second series championship to George.

Ford News 1/9/10

Sad news to report, Bob Tasca Sr. passed away on January 8th, 2010. A true legand in the Ford world, Mr. Tasca owned the world-famous Tasca Ford dealership. Back in the day, he helped bring us the Thunderbolt and the Cobra Jet Mustang. "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" was Tasca's slogan, and that's exactly what he did. Bob Tasca was 83. View our vintage shots of the old Tasca Ford dealership here.
