One of the most attractive and interesting old drag cars has been found,
Sam Auxier Jr's '69 Ultra Stock Mustang. Sam built this Patriotic colored
Mustang for AHRA Ultra Stock competition from a body in white he was given
by Ford in 1969. It was powered by an 8-barreled Tunnel Port 427 which
was backed by a Top Loader 4-Speed. The 10-second Stang featured a one-piece
'glass tilt front end and a straight axle up front. Sam sold it in
late '69 as he was going NHRA Pro Stock racing with a Maverick.
Enter next owners, Ford Dealers Greg & Drake Viscome, who put a Roush built
injected Boss 429 in it. They raced it briefly and then sold it. The
Mustang changed hands and changed appearance many times over
the years, until 2005 when Todd Claxton purchased it. The old Auxier
Stang had had a very rough life as most drag cars did. It had been tubbed of
course, but retained much of it's original fiberglass. Todd is currently
restoring to it's 1969 appearance, which includes un-tubbing it with a
replacement rear floor pan and frame rails.
